We have built a prototype grid to demonstrate the Peer to peer (P2P) energy trading using solar power. Thi page provides insight into our prototype project. The overarching aim of our project is:
- To simplify connectivity;
- Provide real energy options to the end users;
- Reduce the carbon footprint; and
- Add value to our customers.
Each site has a bi-directional smart meter coupled with a roof top solar system . At the same time grid connection is maintained for times when solar electricity is not produced.
The load from each site is monitored and all the excess load is exported. The excess energy which is exported can be chosen to the be sold back to a grid or participate in the P2P energy exchange.
The economic benefit from P2P far outways the main grid export trade. This model provides the exporter of the electricity (prosumer) and importer of the electricity (consumer) better economic returns compared with the conventional feed in tariffs offered.
